As I have frequently said....triangles scare me! Now I am totally aware that the reason they scare me is because I am not careful enough...I admit it! I am a "close enough" kind of sewist! And for the most part that is OK with me!
But I have offered to help a friend sew some pin-wheels for a special project...yes I did!! Pin-wheels!!
She has been very supportive, and sent along instruction, and I have also checked out a couple of online tutorials and decided to jump right in and give it a try.
I started with 5" squares...
Using 2 squares, right sides together, I drew a diagonal line...
then sewed 1/4 " on each side of the line...
Then cut the line to produce 2 HST pieces...
positioning 4 of these together makes the block! Sound easy enough!!
They actually turned out OK, not perfect, but hopefully good enough. Some of the points match perfectly..
and others...not quite so much!
But overall they weren't as hard as I thought they would be...
So that is what I have been doing..how about checking out The Needle and Thread Network...
and Freshly Pieced Work in Progress..

If you don't try new, you get stuck in a rut. The more you do, the easier it will get. Love the little pumpkin fabrics, how cute.
ReplyDeleteYour pinwheels are great! I think anyone would consider them "close enough"
ReplyDeleteThey look great to me!
ReplyDeleteThey look really great. You know you are the only person who will look that closely, don't you??!
ReplyDeleteI hate triangles too; but they are in so many projects. Yours look perfect....what are you afraid of....lol I wish my points were that good!!
ReplyDeleteI love triangles! they are my go to project when I can't think of anything else to do. There is always somewhere to use triangles...
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried them out yet. Yours look great! Un-matching points are part of sewing =D
ReplyDeleteThey look pretty good to me. Sometimes we are our own worse critic:)
ReplyDeleteThey look really good. Secretly, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's points don't always match up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Flo.....lol I didn't use the contrasting thread to be brave....I just didn't want to take the time to change thread...lol...lazy!! And I needed to see where I was going with the feathers....but I mush say; I find I am getting a bit more relaxed...thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteif i get it close i'm ok with it but i wish i could do perfect
ReplyDeleteThat's my favourite way of making triangles. It's nice that they are no longer a problem for you.
ReplyDeleteGREAT job on the HST (Half Square Triangles) - and no one will notice the centre unless you show them. What do they say - if you are riding on a horse past the quilt, will you see the challenges? or something like that. KEEP practising them!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I LOVE the riding past on a horse rule!! thank you !!
Deletethey are gorgeous Flo! I love the fabrics! You are the best!
ReplyDeletethank you all for your encouraging words! Y
ReplyDeletees, I think we are always our worst critics, especially when I see all the amazing work out there. Thank you again!
