I absolutely LOVE to see scrappy binding, stripped binding...polka dot binding...or even just a contrasting colour of binding. I LOVE to see it!
But when I try to do that, I never seem to find the right match! I usually have one or two borders, and it always seems like adding another pattern in the binding competes with the border :(
So....I end up usually using the fabric from the border.
When I look back over my pictures...I don't have one fun binding!! I know....boring!!
I need to get more creative ...or braver..or something!
I don't find them boring. I find that depending on the quilt and borders sometimes I like the binding to stand out, and sometimes to stay in the background.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they are not boring and it is the quilt that speaks as to the binding. You have borders that frame so nicely that the binding should blend with them. Some day that quilt will appear and say "hey, lets do dots!"
ReplyDeleteomg that's hilarious! I hadn't noticed. Still... your quilts are perfect that way - I'm not sure wacky binding would have been the right choice.

Too funny!! My bindings usually match too...
ReplyDeleteuse left overs from your first border instead or some from one of the blocks? I'm back and forth, some times I match sometimes I don't, sometimes I use the same as the backing fabric which is often not matching the top. try one day to deliberately run out of the border fabric, so you HAVE to use another fabric instead.... all yours look great BTW
ReplyDeleteYour quilt's are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI was the same way. However, the blogging world change that ... slowly. It you look at my last quilts, you will see bold, fun borders on most of them :D
i think that the binding needs to match the quilt- so if you dont have a fun and bright quilt- putting on a crazy bright border wont help at all
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful quilts! Now thar you've noticed something you'd like to do differently, you can work towards that, but don't diss these beauties! ( 8
ReplyDeleteI don't do a lot of quilting, but the ones I've done, I tend to find something that matches the fabric in the body of the quilt to do the binding with. Although, depending on how busy the quilt is, and how busy the boarder is, I sometimes match the binding to the border. I think as you grow in your art, you'll find things that make you happy.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your beautiful quilts, I think you're probably the only one that thinks there is anything remotely boring about them!
I love scrappy binding - try a scrap quilt, add a plainish border and then a scrap binding - maybe that will change your mind
ReplyDeletewho cares about the binding those quilts look lovely!!
ReplyDeleteSuch good advice in these comments! It can be so interesting to get others feedback,
ReplyDeleteHow about binding the quilt with the background fabric? I just finished binding one in muslin because I had the same conundrum and it came out strikingly beautiful!
