out of my comfort zone!

As I have frequently said....triangles scare me!  Now I am totally aware that the reason they scare me is because I am not careful enough...I admit it! I am a "close enough" kind of sewist! And for the most part that is OK with me!

But I have offered to help a friend sew some pin-wheels for a special project...yes I did!! Pin-wheels!!
She has been very supportive, and sent along instruction, and I have also checked out a couple of online tutorials and decided to jump right in and give it a try.

I started with 5" squares...

Using 2 squares, right sides together, I drew a diagonal line...

then sewed 1/4 " on each side of the line...

Then cut the line to produce 2 HST pieces...

positioning 4 of these together makes the block! Sound easy enough!!

They actually turned out OK, not perfect, but hopefully good enough. Some of the points match perfectly..

and others...not quite so much!

But overall they weren't as hard as I thought they would be...
So that is what I have been doing..how about checking out The Needle and Thread Network...

and Freshly Pieced Work in Progress..

  1. If you don't try new, you get stuck in a rut. The more you do, the easier it will get. Love the little pumpkin fabrics, how cute.

  8. They look really good. Secretly, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's points don't always match up.

  11. That's my favourite way of making triangles. It's nice that they are no longer a problem for you.

  12. GREAT job on the HST (Half Square Triangles) - and no one will notice the centre unless you show them. What do they say - if you are riding on a horse past the quilt, will you see the challenges? or something like that. KEEP practising them!!!
